After my pothole adventures, my GTI wheels are intact but scratched to shit. I am looking at wheels and would like your opinions, unfiltered of course. You can tell me if you think I have shitty taste.
Right now, #2 is in the lead. Any ideas?

All looks good to me!

I’d rank those:
#4
#1
#3
#2
Obviously tastes may vary, but I find 2 and 3 a bit busy. Given your experiences, I’d suggest focusing on 17"ers, seems like you could use a bit more sidewall.

I like the last ones the best assuming that they’re lighter than your stockies. Are those all cast wheels?

My preference would be #1 or #4... unless you’re trying to do a rally car build. Are you trying to do a rally car build? I hope you’re trying to do a rally car build.
Seriously though, for whatever reason, I associate the #2 and #3 with rally cars. I think it’s all the little slots around the rim, reminds me of the OZ rally wheels. In my brain it’s a cool look, but it belongs on a specific type of car.

I like the look of these
HRE FF01;

FFo4
a few other

#2 and #3 remind you of rally cars because they are modern takes on 90s rally wheels.

In my mind, I always picture early Mk. 1s as with white wheels.
#2 has enough of that sort of retro feel along with kind of a BBS-ish look to make it my recommendation.

I know this sounds stupid but #1 looks like it should be on an American sports car or hatch, 2 looks euro (good for gti) , 3 looks rally, and 4 looks like it should be on an STi or Evo.

Yeah, makes me think of these specifically:

None of these are RPF1’s, so...

Which ones are smaller? More sidewall might equal less blowouts.

Turbo macs. But honestly I like all of them. We apparently have similar tastes

I like the first one’s on top.
A quick look on TireRack......personally I like thicker five- or six-spoke wheels. Pretty much the only thing I don’t like about new GTI’s is the stock wheel choices.

Sorry to hear about the wheels. I’ve scratched mine up living in a city but not looking to replace until next year. I personally love the 1552 brand and think it’s a more unique option/look.

Of the pictured ones, I like 1 or 2 best. Hard without seeing them on a car.
But! You don’t have to go aftermarket for a decent look, I really like the Performance Pack wheels.

I like the looks of the RS’s or the black fifteen52s. Your GTI is gray right? Black wheels on a gray car always look good in my book. T he fifteen 52s look like they would be complete monsters to keep brake dust off of though . As an owner of a vehicle with gloss black wheels, the fewer spokes and nooks/crannies the better.

#2 or #3 are my picks. Although #2 can be seen quite frequently, so I’d lean more towards #3.

I like the look of the RS wheel options you put in there. The others not so much. But I also dont really care for how a wheel looks beyond it being anything other than black. My priority is always just lower weight = better. You should prioritize wheel sizing that will allow for thicker tires to mitigate pothole shenanigans in the future.

upvote not because white wall but because very cool however I concede I initially clicked because white wall

Yes, I think these would look great on your scooter.

I’d look at the Sparco Asset to Gara in whatever color blows your skirt up. They are about 19 pounds each, cheap, tough and readily available. They also look good.

My favorite GTI wheels are the Clubsport wheels ADabOfOppo has, in VW-speak I believe they’re called “Brescia”. But if the only size available is 19" then they might hurt ride comfort a bit vs the stock 18s.
As far as non-OEM options go the Neuspeed RSe10 has caught my eye in the past. Multiple finish options too:

BBS LM wheels are the correct choice for GTIs old or new , although they are a smidgen on the expensive side.
Otherwise, just look for a set of stockers from Craigslist.

Inspired by the (apparent) optional wheels on the Rabbit edition, I found something similar.
(I did not look at weight but they appear to be less than stock)

Stuck between HRE FF01's and Forgestar F14's for my Alltrack.

If I’m spending those magical class-action dollars, I’d go with the Enkei Racing NT03RR. They just look like the business .

I don’t know much about VW wheels, but my basic understanding is that Neuspeed stuff is pretty good and 1552 is not so great.
I like the last one the most. I would also guess it is the lightest. If so, it 100% gets my vote.

I’ve always been a big fan of these wheels from TSW.

#2 is my favorite design overall, but I like #4 the best for a GTI. But I think any of them except #3 would look good on it.

I have used Rota slipstreams on my race car for 4 years and am very happy with them. Relatively light, good price.

17" Radius W115 from Tire Rack
Smaller wheels and taller sidewall will give you a little more protection against pothole shit

My mom ran Neuspeeds on her GTI (RSe52 to be exact ). They were light (you could really feel the difference compared to the OEM wheels) , relatively affordable and shrugged off a direct hit on a jutting mountain rock. S o my vote goes to #1 and #4.

I really think that option #3 is the clear winner. Option#1 is nice, but not for a GTI. Option 2 is ok, and option 4 is a hard no. My reasoning is I have seen option 3 on a GTI, and dayum thats a rockstar combo. In my opinion the absolute
best combination of car/ rim. Option 1 looks good on a car with a trunk, #2 looks good in small size on a small car from the late 70's, and #4 is just bad.
